Santa Fe's unique SF30B 6419 leads a BNBLA empty TOFC train through Fullerton on January 3, 1997. Power on this wonderful California winter day is 6419-5175-5182-3836-4003-577. B trains are used to bring extra TOFC into Hobart from short term storage in desert sidings. In this case, NB stands for Newberry Springs, about 20 miles east of Barstow. Date:

Finally down into Mojave, the 991 bangs through the cross overs at the top of the yard. The cross overs look a little beat up, probably from the millions of tons of trona and coal that has been going up and down the Searles Branch (the turnout is off to the right). Date:

Finally ready to depart SP tracks and regain the Santa Fe main at Arrowhead Junction, the 991 passes the high masted triple signal that guards the junction at the bottom of the Mojave Yard. At least the signal is still there, but the SP, the Santa Fe, the 991, and the B39-8's have all slipped into history. Date:

Rolling through Antioch, CA are the first three B39-8's for the Santa Fe, 7400-7401-7402 bringing the 199 train into Richmond, CA on August 5, 1985. Like the BN B32-8's, these units were really fielded engineering prototypes for GE's Dash-8 product line, and after a couple of years were returned to GE. Date:
